It's been a while since we've seen anything in the navcam cloud sequences, but something's starting to show up now on 1565:

This is a bandpass-filtered average subtracted from each frame, then stretched and smoothed.

Let's please resume following this segment of Curiosity's journey...

You make me nostalgic for the old days when Doug Ellison would come in and shut down these discussions... wink.gif

Good to see the clouds again. Maybe the dust levels are reducing?

Would it be better for some of these posts to be shifted into this interesting thread?

Just one of a nice series of close-up 1566 MAHLIs (1/1/17) No processing. The one-centimeter scale bar is thanks to Gerald's MAHLI ruler

Crop of the 1526-52 rlb series. This shows more travelling ripples and how the wheel track and debris from a moved rock are erased and overrun by the ripples:

Very interesting how the rock to either side of the vertical veins stands in slightly higher relief...

Seems as if either side of the veins is more resistant somehow?
Interesting to compare this to the halos in sandstones.

In this image, did anyone note upon all the little white spherules (diameter < 0.2 mm according to the scale bar) randomly embedded in the sediment?

There seem to be several well-rounded sand grains distributed on the presumably hematite-rich rock, some of which with an olivine-like appearance, illuminated from the lower right, and casting a respective shadow to the upper left. The rock might be structured beyond the whitish veins, but I don't see obvious well-rounded embedded clasts.

The white/clear spherules are evident and may well be of impact provenance. Perhaps deposited as an impact related airfall into water or through fluvial transportation. Could be glass converted or converting to clay. Pretty though and unusual.

To avoid confusion: Are you talking about grains like these? (rotated 90 degrees to reduce risk of optical illusion)
Attached Image

If so, those don't look like embedded to me, and may be wind-transported.
Could be e.g. olivine, glass, impactite, or SiO2. We've seen (likely) olivine grains before in the dunes.

Are there obviously embedded well-rounded bright translucent grains, hence evidently clasts or concretions of the rock?

Sol 1568 RMI mosaic. I see what appears to be small sections of exposed mineral filled fractures, also seeing erosion resistant bedrock next to some of the veins... However, we also appear to have a thin layer of material over the veins. Hopefully someone can enlighten me on how this may have occurred smile.gif
