I came across a paper presented at the recent Lunar and Planetary Science conference that gave academic credence to the possibility that the Anatolia trough may have formed through karst-like process similar to that observed in Hungary. The paper is in this link and you'd have to scroll down near the bottom to find it.

So don't hesitate to make any comments and to correct me on any of my points about Anatolia.
