Hey all,
I am a JPLer working toward improving the user experience of the Planetary Data System. As an interaction designer, my goal is to understand the breadth of the PDS user community. I'd like to speak to any and all willing community members about their experience using the PDS, and the ways it supports your goals as scientists, developers, students, hobbyists, and the like. I'm also interested in learning about ways it can continue to support your goals as we move forward. See our formal solicitation email quoted below. QUOTE Hello Everyone! The Planetary Data System (PDS) has started work on our new PDS Data Services Initiative (abstract, poster), a vision to provide an integrated world-wide data services platform that enables the efficient discovery, dissemination, use and analysis of internationally sponsored planetary science archives. As part of our initial phase, we are kicking off a user study to get a better understanding of our current user needs and requirements. The study will include individual interviews/discussions and some help with playing around with some of the ideas we put together. We are looking for folks across pretty much any domain that interacts with the PDS: · Scientists · Tool developers · Data providers · Educators · Students · Amateur astronomers Thank you in advance for all of your help! If you are interested in speaking, please feel free to send me a PM with your email address so I can arrange a day, time, and place (most likely WebEx/Google Hangouts) for our conversation. Thank you for your time and consideration, ya'll. e |

Bumping this topic. I have just been hired to co-chair the NASA Planetary Data Ecosystem Independent Review Board; I'm responsible for the "Searching" subcommittee but will also be working closely with the other four (especially Archiving and Utilization). I'm interested in hearing from EVERYONE what your challenges have been with finding and using data, and so on. Please respond to this request for information! https://nspires.nasaprs.com/external/solici...amp;method=init
