This one has brought my laptop to its knees. I know it's not perfect, but I'm going to shift it over to my big-rig and have another go next week. Not sure what I should define as the centre point of the full 360 degrees to be honest ohmy.gif Almost impossible to get it looking 'normal' - but there we go...

http://www.unmannedspaceflight.com/doug_im...s_ten_val_1.jpg (604kb)

72 images - full res would be around 16200 pixels across - I went for just under 1/3rd of that for now smile.gif

I believe Spirit's current location ( Sol 453ish ) is on the joint of the 2nd and 3rd top frames from the right - about 3/4s the way down the top frame.

Enjoy

Doug

Thanks for your image, Doug. I find it (in addition to what others say) particularly useful in giving overall a better idea of the surrounding topography and the steepness of the ascent where Spirit is struggling on just now. It's not so easy to grasp those conditions looking at the raw images only.

It scales with the square of the number of images.  a little 2 x 2 can probably be done, stitched, uploaded and lovely in 15 minutes

But - a 6 x 3 might take about an hour, and that one was a couple of hours in all

That includes color matching too??? What's your memory usage look like when doing a big panorama?

I saw these today while browsing. The perspective is pretty wild in these shots.

Memory usage looks, frankly, horrific smile.gif This machine only has 512mb and I close EVERYTHING else when using PTGui to align and whathaveyou.

Colour matching I do afterwards in Photoshop - usually column by column using the 'match colour' tool of a good average column.

In the first image there are rock outcrops visible on the plains at the foot of the hill and the outcrops tend to be darker than the surrounding area. What direction are we looking in? Could this be to the east of Columbia hills?

I wonder if this is our first look at the true nature of the "Abyss"? The Inner Basin is a fascinating area and I'm looking forward to reaching it.

Geez, I feel like my RAM is going to waste - sitting here with about 1.3GB of it in my system. smile.gif
But then, I don't have Photoshop. I wonder if GIMP will ever acquire that particular feature?
So you do the panorama, THEN do the color matching? I would have thought it the other way around.

Well - if you're using RAD's - the colours dont need much matching anyway.

That's the radiometrically calibrated imagery, right? I guess I need to do more reading on these forums to find out how to get those things and use them. I'm still sort of a newcomer here; at least I feel like one.

Nasa pan

rolleyes.gif There is room for improvement here right Doug? How is your full-res going on this one? Hope to see it when you finish it up. smile.gif

Well - the reason you can see joins is because they took it over 4 different sols - so it's essentially 4 mosaics side by side - and to be honest, instead of going thru the pain of doing all 4 together - which has been done fairly well by the team look at that - I'm going to stick to doing one mosaic for one sol in most cases smile.gif

Yes they did do a good job on it and I understand the pain to make it.
Any further thoughts on the centerpoint for those big pans?
Are the lighting differences big in the rads?
