We can see the drives climbing further southward up the valley, using official mosaics between Sols 3778 and 3783.
Longer stepable drive animation with a combination of official and Jan's mosaics from Sol 3435 to the present. -------------------- Steve [ my home page and planetary maps page ]

As so many have said before, thank you for all these amazing images, Neville!
[D'oh. What john_s said.] In post #833, about 1/4 of the way in from the right edge and midway vertically (or about 70% of the way up in the 2nd-from right mosaic column) there's a rock with "spines" sticking out from a layer, with accompanying shadows. There are some lesser examples in rocks to its left. We've seen fantastically fragile-looking abraded lacework rocks before, but I don't recall an example with such nice periodic spacing--presumably some wind shadowing/resonance effect? Does it have any diagnostic value? |

I'll throw out one hypothesis for these spikes- parallel ripples in the sediments, with coarser or better-cemented grains accumulating in the troughs of the ripples. That could result in regularly-spaced parallel linear features in the sediment that are more wind-resistant. Add wind erosion roughly parallel to those features, so they protect themselves as the rest of the suface recedes, and you might get something like this. Or not.
