Ishagame, welcome! It is indeed great to be able to watch history as it happens like this. I have watched each of these close approaches live through the blogs (good job I'm on sabbatical at the moment!) and it's a good way to participate, even from a distance. Good luck to everybody on the project today.
I hope JAXA will release a map of Itokawa soon. Phil -------------------- ... because the Solar System ain't gonna map itself.

The Itokawa position looks good for Hayabusa to land on Musa-C? (don't remember exactly its name) which is located at the center of lumps. Now Itokawa's longitudinal (long line which connects lumps) is about 150 degree from Hayabusa. As it rotates one round in 12 hours, 30 degree per hour. So, within 2 hours from now, it would be about 90 (150 - 60 degree) degree, good position to land... Good luck,
Rodolfo |

No, I'm just a fan In fact, I heard that the blogger is a member of the operation team. (He isn't PR expert) So he will not able to update the blog if there is a sudden emergency. >phil > I hope JAXA will release a map of Itokawa soon. http://www.jaxa.jp/news_topics/column/special-4/p2_j.html We have no Engirsh pages now... Mr. Matogawa says Hayabusa is desending smoothly. |

Which place is Hayabusa supposed to land?
1) Uchinoura bay (Lower part of Itokawa -blue circle-) 2) Muses Sea (at the center of Itokawaq -red circle-) 3) Womera desert (at the tip of lump -yellow circle-) Rodolfo P.D.This is my first time I was able to translate the names from Japanese to English. It was easy to guess it. |

There are the flatest area on Itokawa. There are huge rocks(approx. 50m) on Woomera desert. |
