They don't look like happy campers.

The caption to the photo, " 緊張の第2運用室", I'd translate it as "the operation room staff waiting anxiously". I hope they are simply anxious.

Well I can't take it much more. I'm going out to put up some Christmas decorations while I still have three hours of daylight.

I'll check back now and then

According to Matsuura's blog, we can only know around 11:00JST (TZ+9) if Hayabusa had succeeded in sample collection.
http://smatsu.air-nifty.com/lbyd/
It might have aborted at just a few meters away from the surface, only Hayabusa knows at the moment.

One more good news: They still has one target marker left, they've led Hayabusa to land at the same place of the previous attempt.

From smatsu's blog, here is my quick translation of his 7:38am entry:

"""
The planned touch-down was to be around 7:10am JST (22:10 GMT) in probe time, on the ground it'd be around 7:26am JST (22:26 GMT).

From the video footage streamed to the press room, there was a momentary interruption of the beacon signal at around 7:20JST, and at around 7:26JST the beacon signal started coming in again. Around 7:28JST, the ascent was announced.

The blog reported it as "it started ascending for some reason".

Whether it landed or not, we'll have to wait until the communication gets re-established around 11am JST via the high gain antenna. Judging from the timeline of the events, it seems natural that it did land and soared back up. However there is still a possibility that it aborted the landing and started its ascent at a few meters off the terrain.

In any case, the staff members in the operation room look fairly calm. They are not *unhappy*.

also from Matsura blog

Professor MATOKAWA announced in press room" if the sample can take normally. In this case,
Doppler displacement takes cleanly, but this time Doppler was disordered.

Exactly.. Let's hope they still has enough, or some kind 'Itokawans' has a nice gas station.

Oh there's another update.. we'll know some status around 8:10JST, they says.
The doppler signal was disturbed at the moment of touchdown, which was not expected for a 'smooth' touchdown, Kawaguchi says.

Matsuura also reports that Kawaguchi is willing even for an another trial (Hey they're working all night!). Seems like other staff needs some more Lipos?

from matsuura blog.

When a hayabusa began a rise,
Mr kawaguchi the PM said "Let's do it once again"
The very tired staff hit a big sigh.
Only Mr.Kawaguchi does not seem to be tired still more.
