Aaargh. I bet on sol 485. Didn't count on them driving on a saturday. tongue.gif

Speaking of driving during the weekend, is Oppy executing the usual weekend 2/3 sol plan? If so, will it drive into the dune in front of it tomorrow with the MER team unable to do anything about it? blink.gif

If they are executing it like last weekend, every move should require a go/no go decision, as written in a status update.

Thanks, forgot about that.

Glad that Oppy is finally free. 'Only' took a month or so. sad.gif
Looking on the bright side of things, we got some really cool roverwheel movies now. I suppose they are a feast for soil scientists. And this wind drift will go down in history as the most well-studied dune ever. tongue.gif

Wow what a finish and what a trench!!! I'm so happy too! Also it's clearer that we have here two different solid, "exact" zoned terrain. I guess this big trench is now the best ramp for investigations.

I hope they download lots of those hazcam subframes... it would be great to see Opportunity finally emerging from the soil. biggrin.gif

I just gave the celebratory trowel it's last coat of gold - I hope to get a little plaque made tomorrow morning, then mount it tomorrow night and hopefully send it off on Monday smile.gif

Doug, is there any way you can include a diskette or something that includes the names of all the people here on the Forum? So the MER Team knows how much we were *all* pulling for them?

Let's hope that the weather doesn't come in and rain on our parade...

From JPL's latest update:
QUOTE
Weather report: Atmospheric opacity (measured as "tau") has increased over the past few sols, decreasing the amount of solar energy received by Opportunity. The rover has still been able to drive every sol, but has had to use the deep-sleep mode on most nights to save energy.

If anyone from the MER team is reading I'd love to see some numbers to go with the occassional reports on the power front.

That is quite a trench, that said, I propose that anyone suggesting that we go back into the dune to study the trench be permanently banned from this board biggrin.gif (Although it might be neat to shoot lossless images of it under full sun with all filters and study it with TES from our current position while they are figuring out where to go from here (AKA how to drive in this area without getting stuck again)

Why not? Spin the rover around (if possible with that bum wheel) and reach as far as possible with the arm to do some work on the deep trenches.

I wonder if they'll go check out some of those tiny craters now?

Yeah - Tiny Craters or bust!

After all how many craters are there where Oppy can do a complete mosaic with the MI?
