Hello, this is the rover update for Monday March 22nd. I am Jessica Collisson and today I am the Flight Director for Opportunity.

In just a couple of moments or a few minutes, Opportunity will be exiting Eagle crater. We actually attempted this yestersol, but found that the manner in which we were trying to exit just put the conditions too steep for the rover to drive directly up and outside of the crater. So we’re hoping that today’s attempts, which will be a more of a traverse along the side of the crater, will bring us up to the rim and we can eventually just drive up over the lift and out onto the plains of Meridiani.

The Spirit vehicle just completed its final approach to target called Mazatzal. The team is planning three days of IDD activities at this position before she continues on to her journey towards the hills.

Stay tuned this week for continued updates on Spirit and Opportunity.
