Hi, this is Jeff Fabretto and this is the July 7th 2004 Flight Director report for the Mars Exploration Rovers.

Today was Spirit’s 181st sol and today when we were doing and IDD move, which is some tool at the end of this robotic arm we’re gonna switch those tools, and what we had was a collision error. So what happens is that if the tool changes and it gets too close and it thinks it’s gonna hit itself, the computer says: No, I’m not gonna do this and I’m gonna stop this operation. So we didn’t actually collide with ourselves, the software is developed so we don’t do that. Today we’ll clear up those errors and continue on on our way to a place in Engineering Flats tomorrow.

On Opportunity it’s sol 161 and we have some interesting things happening there. We have a NavCam and a PanCam cloud movie that they’re gonna try to take. We’ll see what that turns out to be tomorrow. And they RAT-ted a rock called ‘Drammensfjord’. They’ve gone ahead and drilled into this rock and gone ahead and put on the APXS, that’s one of our instruments, into that hole that the RAT created and we’ll get some information from that, the mineral composition of that rock tomorrow.
