At Val Thorens, the highest ski resort in Europe (alt : 2,340 m above sea level) we witnessed last Friday a huge and sudden snow storm with winds peaking over 90 km/hrs...
We could not resist to go for ski, like many of the inhabitants (because the quality of the snow at Val Thorens is such great : it's one of the best in the world for skiing, as if you were sking on velvet)...
But -like many- we came back after an hour or so to our home because of winds gusts that made us unable to withstand such temp conditions : -20°C with wind gusts effect at the top of some skilifts arrival areas.

snow storm pics. Enjoy ! smile.gif

...And, as a bonus pic, the panorama taken a few days before from Cime Caron (3,230m alt above sea level) : Mont-Blanc (4,807 m alt, the highest peak in Europe) is seen as a distant mountain on the horizon just above the Val Thorens ski resort in the middle of the panorama. Enjoy also ! smile.gif

Thanks Olivier. You'd better know where the Mont Blanc is to be able to point it.
When back home, I'll show you a picture from the top wink.gif

smile.gif Thanks Climber : here are the explanations.

...And your panoramic picture from the summit of Mont-Blanc is much awaited : maybe you could show where Cime Caron is from it (although it would stand below the horizon and be not so easy to pinpoint)...

Lovely! I wish I had thought to take a panorama when I was skiing recently.

Olivier,
Picture will come later. I'm on my way to Montevideo and can find a poor quality one only on my computer.
I've got to scan all the slides (I feel like a old timer) and see what I can stitch.
I've got stitch from other tops but...this is a bit OT, isn't it?
I did the 100kms skying in the 3 valleys around Val Thorens. This is a great place.
