If you can put a grid on the surface (as we have seen already), you can warp that grid into any map projection you like. Mapping will be no huge problem - in fact I expect they have a rough one already (I've been playing with one myself). Phil -------------------- ... because the Solar System ain't gonna map itself.

A question for the shape modelers: Are their detailed enough observations to detect possible changes in the comet's shape / topography between the period of approach to the Sun and the period of departure? The comet is big and the changes would be small, but are they detectable?
Since things were changing rapidly around perihelion (and Rosetta had to back off for navigation / safety reasons) it seems reasonable to ignore data near perihelion. Steve M |
