Thank you Kevin for pointing out on Twitter that JunoCAM got a look at Io on this pass. Here is my quick take:
Image time: 2019-02-12T14:15:02.370. Distance: 278,217 km The Chalybes Regio plume is still visible along the terminator. here is a simulated view from Cosmographia: -------------------- &@^^!% Jim! I'm a geologist, not a physicist!

Thank you Kevin for pointing out on Twitter that JunoCAM got a look at Io on this pass. Thanks for telling me that the Chalybes Regio plume was there! To be safe, I tend to assume that type of pixel-sized anomaly are artifacts of my processing pipeline. I went and processed it from the raw to bring out the plume. Quick process and applied heavy sharpening. Io with Chalybes Plume - PJ18-6 |

Here is a link to PJ18 drafts, part 1.
Here according reprojections of the rgb images, almost illumination adjusted, and stretched with gamma=4. Versions with gamma=1, and just decompanded and square-root encoded (gamma = 0.5). I'll upload five JPG images of the gamma=5. #20, #23, #24: |

and #26:
There seems to be a new bright hot pixel, distinctly visible in #20 of this version with my previous hot pixel mask. |

Nice. Is that "The Brown Barge" or A brown barge. I'm a bit new to this nomenclature.
Great example of cyclonic updraft, then high altitude shear. The Solar System's biggest anvil cloud. Don't tell the tornado chasers, somebody will get hurt. -------------------- UMSF Newbie since 2006.

"Barge" is the observer's term for any elongated dark cloud. "The" brown barge was a similar feature in the North Equatorial Belt. Given recent trends in Jupiter's weather patterns, there is a good chance we see several develop this year.

Here is a link to those drafts.
And here a link to an almost illumination-adjusted version, with subsequent gamma stretch. I'll upload the according JPGs, with the portion exceeding 180 degrees cropped. #28: |
