Yes, without infringing on rule 1.3, its is eerily skull-like in shape.

Sol 2684: A roughly assembled 10 frame RMI mosaic of the top of Western Butte. Looks like they had a second bite at this because an earlier sequence had issues with focus.
If this is typical of what the terrain the rover will encounter on top of the Greenheugh Pediment, it's going to keep the rover drivers busy |

Big news in the current status report... Curiosity will attempt to climb the slope here and get onto the pediment surface now instead of going the long way round (east, south, southwest). I thought it would not be possible but apparently it is. I'm surprised they are not worried about missing the contact between Glen Torridon and the sulphate hills, but maybe they can get back to that area later.

In keeping with a fine tradition, we have the first instalments of a MAHLI selfie at Hutton on sol 2687.
But you should also check out the very large set of R-NavCam thumbnails that were imaging the turret as the MAHLI images were acquired, they should make a rather sweet timelapse. Thumbnails link |

Thumbnails link It would be interesting to have a selfie where the mast-cams are not looking directly at the MAHLI cam, which has always been the case I think. Instead it might be fun if it was looking down studying a surface feature, or gazing wistfully into the distance, perhaps in the direction of an Earth-rise. Just a thought to switch it up a little! |
